First of two parts of the monograph contains the story of Japanese naval air force beginnings. The stress has been laid on the carrier-based aircraft. The Washington Treaty and the first big American and Japanese aircraft carriers' development are the background for the description of Akagi battlecruiser-to-carrier conversion copncept and its realisation. The book also includes technical description of the vessel and the pre-war service calendar. It is completed with two inserts showing scale plans, colour 3D drawings and camouflage schemes.
